Kit v2 Assembly

Assembly instruction for the “Maker Faire Roma” Kit version.

Please note: Capacitor C1 included in the Kit may be different from the 2.2 uF listed in the docs. This is not a problem (100 nF ,1uF, etc capacitors works as well)

Step 1: Check Parts

 1: Speaker cable

 2: Speaker

 3: Pin header (2 pin – male)

 4: Resistor

 5: Capacitor (C2)

 6: Capacitor (C1)

 7: 2 x 3.5 mm Stereo Audio Jack Connector

 8: DC3-10 pin connector (UEXT)

 9: 2 x Pin header (15 Pin – female)

10: PCB

11: Screw Terminal Block 3-pin

Step 2: Prepare the two 15 pin headers (9) for the Arduino Nano

Insert into the PCB the two 15-pin female headers.

They need to be parallels and form a 90-Degree angle with the PCB to let the Arduino Nano fit smoothly

To do this you may use, as a temporary support, the DC3-10 Pin Connector (8)  as shown in the picture.

Step 3: Solder the two 15 pin headers

Solder the two outermost pins for each Header (see top picture).
While doing this, press down the PCB to hold the Headers in the right position.

Turn the PCB and check if the Headers are in the right 90-Degrees/Parallel position (bottom picture).

Solder all of the pins.

Step 4: Solder the Stereo Audio Jack Connector, Terminal Block and Pin Header
Insert the two 3.5 mm Stereo Audio Jack Connectors (7), the 2-Pin Header (3) and the Screw Terminal Block 3-pin (11)
Solder them to the PCB.
Step 5: Prepare the Resistor and the two Capacitors
Insert the Resistor (4) and the two Capacitors (5,6) into the PCB
Step 6: Solder the Resistor and the two Capacitors
Open a little bit the wires to hold components in place.
Solder them to the PCB.
Step 7: Solder DC3-10 pin connector
Insert the DC3-10 pin connector (8) and solder it to the PCB.
Step 8: Solder Speaker cable
Solder the Speaker cable (1) to the Speaker
That’s it!
Your Open LED Race kit is now ready.
